You may have felt it, but now a scientific analysis of stress over time offers some proof that there’s more stress in people’s lives today than 25 years ago…
Here is some startling data on increasing stress in our lives:
-an increase of stress in women up 18% and 24% for me between 1983 and 2009 as reported my researchers at Carnegie Melon University.
This is very significant in that stress is a biological reaction to events that demand more of us than we would ideally want to have to give. These are hormonal reactions that we are talking about; one has to mobilize into a flight/flight state and if there are too many events for too long, there is an exhaustion phase that takes over and this depletes our organism. Our reserves are depleted and this can lead to lower functioning and eventually health issues.
